The idea

A place is more than what you can see.

A station can hold a goodbye. A shopfront can hold fifty years of early mornings. A path can hold the memory of everyone who walked it before you. MicDrop brings those invisible stories into the open — pinned to the exact spots where they happened, building the world’s living oral history one place and one voice at a time.

How it works

Hear the place. Add your voice.

Open the map

See the drops pinned to the places around you — each one a short story left where it happened.

Listen where it happened

You can’t listen from your couch. Get close enough and the drop unlocks — the story only exists at the spot.

Leave a drop

Record a memory, a moment or a piece of local knowledge and leave it exactly where you’re standing. It becomes part of the place.

The voices

Every voice adds a layer.

The community’s layer

Neighbours, locals and people who were there, each adding lived experience to the record. Two people can remember the same place differently — that’s not noise, it’s the texture of memory.

“One place can hold a hundred truths.”

The storytellers’ layer

Where a place hasn’t found its voice yet, our storytellers craft one — researched local tales told in character: a ghost of the old wharf, a market trader, a lighthouse keeper. They hold the space until real memories arrive.

“Someone crafted a voice to keep this place from staying silent.”

The difference

Not another social feed.

MicDrop is organised around places, not popularity. There are no followers to collect, no rankings to chase and no ads interrupting the story. The point is not to perform for an audience — it is to leave something meaningful behind.

Built to remember, not to keep you scrolling.

Membership

Join the world’s oral history.

≈ the price of a coffee, each year

When MicDrop launches, membership will unlock every story on the map — and the right to add your own. It’s a fair exchange: members fund the archive, so the archive never has to sell them. Your contribution keeps local voices alive for the people who live here now, and the people who come later.

Final price and details to be confirmed at launch. Beta testers listen free.

The story is still here.

Open MicDrop. Listen closer. Leave something worth remembering.
